10 Easy Ways To Make Money For Your Charity Or Organization
Working for a charity or not for profit organization? Had a funding cut or want to raise funds for a special project? Just want to raise money for your favourite cause but don’t have masses of time or money. Here are ten simple ways that you can raise money for your favourite cause.
1) Sponsored something or other – remember doing sponsored walks and sponsored silences when you were at school? Sponsored events are still a great way to raise money with little outlay – all you need to do s print some forms and collect signatures and later money (when you have done your activity). This can be a great activity for kids too. Ideas for sponsoring: silence, litter pick, walk, bicycle ride, dance, parachute jump, bungee jump, slim, abstaining from chocolate etc.
2) Auction – auctions are a great and fun way to raise money. You can have a general auction or have a theme (e.g. games, art, books and records). You might want to auction off people’s services – e.g. haircut, massage, gardening, a meal in a restaurant etc.
3) Dinner party – invite your friends and ask them to pay per head. If you want it to be more fun choose a theme for the evening.
4) Coffee morning – a coffee morning is a great way to raise awareness and funds for your charity. Charge a small fee to get in and for cakes. You might want to combine it with a raffle or book and toy sale.
5) Bake sale − bake sales are always popular. Get as many people as you can to donate homemade cakes, scones, biscuits, jam, savouries etc. Choose a time and place where people will be congregating – the work canteen at lunchtime or in the school hall or playground after school.
6) Car boot sale – all you need is a big space like a car park or school playground. Stall holders pay a fixed price per pitch and you can also make a small charge for punters on the gate. You can combine this with a bake sale, auction, raffle or tombola to raise even more funds.
7) A dress down or dress up day – perfect for school or workplace – everyone pays a pound to wear casual clothes for the day. Or you could choose a theme – books, film, the 1970s etc.
8) A school disco – remember those? Hold a school disco for adults. Play 60s, 70s and 80s music. Have dance competitions, a raffle, a bake sale, have coke and crisps and penny sweets. Have a prize for the best outfit.
9) Hair raiser – if you are a man get sponsored to grow a beard or moustache for a month. If you are a woman (or a man) get sponsored to shave your head.
10) Take it away – give up restaurants, takeaways and visiting cafes for a month and donate what you save.
If you enjoy these ideas you might want to think about a career in fundraising. Fundraising jobs can be challenging and fun but are definitely worthwhile.
