Save Money in Buying the Right Bed Sheets
By: Guest Author
A standard part of bedding is the sheets. Sheets are intended to layer the bed and protect it from spills and stains. They are also meant to be used for warmth and comfort. Without sheets, essentially all you’d have is a pillow or blanket. One should not underestimate the value of quality sheets. Bed sheets made out of the wrong material can tear, stain more easily, and not provide the appropriate amount of warmth. When shopping at SHEEX.comor another vendor, don’t neglect to follow these tips on selecting the perfect sheets for you.
Color
When picking out bedding, make sure your pieces match. If you are buying sheets separately, see that the colors and patterns match your bedspread. You should keep in mind the advantages that come with different shades of colors. Darker sheets conceal stains much better. However, after so many washes these sheets may lose their original hue. Beware of sheets that will tint your clothing the same shade as them. As for lighter sheets, these are more likely to show stains yet they will not fade as much.
Size
Remember that size makes a difference when selecting sheets. You should take into account the type and the depth (or pocket) of the mattress. You can choose among twin, twin long, double, queen, king, and California king sizes for sheets. When looking through packets of sheet, see that the measurements conform to the depth of your mattress.
Fabric
The type of material in a bed sheet is key. To really know what you like, you should feel the different choices of fabric yourself. Each has a unique feel. You can tug on sample squares to see how durable the fabric is. Keep in mind that some materials may irritate your skin. If you’re sensitive, be sure you steer clear of synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester. Cheaper sheets are known to do this as well. Remember to buy sheets meant for certain times of the year and temperatures. Wool and flannel are known to keep sleepers toasty during wintertime. Cotton and rayon are recommended for summertime. FYI, polyester and polyester blended with cotton are not so great for humid conditions. Rayon, on the other hand, will keep you cooler in high temperatures. Think about how washable each fabric will be. Basic fabrics can simply be tossed in the washing machine. On the other hand, silk and linen sheets need extra care.
Thread Count
Consider thread count. This has to do with the texture of a bed sheet. Finer, better quality sheets have a higher thread count, generally speaking. Go for counts of 300 to 400 for good quality material. You can really tell the difference between a 200-count and a 400-count bed sheet. As you get higher, however, the less noticeable the difference will be between counts. Counts range between 80 and 1,000.
Price
When shopping at SHEEX.com and other places, factor in price into the equation. Narrow down your search by the categories listed earlier. Then you can compare prices online. Make these purchases online or go to a furniture or mattress store to see if these amounts can be matched.
