Anyone that is getting a kitchen remodeling in NJ knows that it can cost a lot to get new cabinets, but it is worth every penny. New cabinets can give your kitchen new life and can add value to your home as well. Did you know that you can offset some of that cost by selling your old cabinets? To successfully sell old cabinets, here are a few tips to get you started.
Give Them a Good Cleaning
Cleaning your cabinets is an important step to making them marketable. To really give you cabinets a good cleaning, you can use a degreaser with a soft cloth and some major elbow grease. Before you start, you should remove or cover anything that could be splashed on, such as the countertops and sinks. Second, remove all of the hardware from the cabinets. The hinges and the handles can tarnish if exposed to the chemicals of the degreaser.
Once you have prepped the cabinets, you can begin cleaning them. Use a spray bottle that has the degreaser and water mixed according to the factory directions. Spray the areas that have thick grease or grime and allow them to sit for a minute. After the degreaser has penetrated the stain, you can begin to scrub. It may take some time if the cabinets are really dirty, but it will be worth the return.
Remove the Cabinets
If you don’t feel comfortable removing cabinets from your wall, you can ask your cabinet company if they can do the job for you, for an extra fee, of course. Removing cabinets from the wall is actually easier than you think. Each cabinet is anchored to the wall by a set of screws. All you have to do is have someone hold the cabinet while you remove all of the screws. If cabinets are old, they may have affixed somewhat to the paint. It may require the use of a thin crowbar to pry the cabinets from the wall. If you feel like the cabinets are going to break or crack while you are prying them from the wall, stop and look for more screws. You want to make sure the cabinet is completely free from the wall before you attempt to remove it or your could damage the cabinets.
Selling Your Cabinets
Right now is a great age for selling used items. There are a lot of venues where people sell used stuff. Ebay, Facebook, and Craigslist are all great venues for selling anything that you don’t have need of, like those kitchen cabinets. If you post an ad, you will get a lot more response if you put a photo on the advertisement. You should include pictures of the cabinets hung up in your kitchen, as well as closeups of the removed cabinets. Many sellers choose to include closeups of any damage as well.

Selling your old cabinets will not only put money in your pocket, but it wall also take days off of demolition for your cabinet contractors, and that can save you money as well.
